It is a mild evening in Altwarmbüchen. Two couples sit at a table under the awning, glasses clink, soft laughter mingles with the scent of freshly baked dough. What looks like a scene from an Italian film is in fact the beginning of a new story: Piazza Italiana – Trattoria & Artisan Pizza.
Capitolo 1
Salvatore Tomasello often says: “I am the piazza – and my family is the piazza.” For him this is no empty phrase. At the age of four he stood at the stove frying his first egg. At six he cooked pasta – discovering not only the scent of olive oil, garlic and tomatoes, but the magic of bringing people together around a table.
In his childhood, hospitality was not “done” – it was lived: guests became regulars, regulars became friends – and every plate told a story.
Maurizio Di Tullio knows this world just as well, with a different soundtrack: the scents of a gelateria, the dough of a pizzeria, the hum of Christmas markets and street festivals. For him, hospitality was home – a place where he did not just work, but breathed.


Capitolo 2
Salvatore went out into the world: he built up restaurants on the Ivory Coast, trained chefs, later ran seven bistros with 140 cooks and today oversees the entire food operation of one of northern Germany’s largest leisure parks with more than 170 employees. He never lost his love of personal contact with guests.
Maurizio took a different path: a year in Australia, nine months of it in a fine Italian restaurant – then a business degree and the world of digitalisation and processes. Skills he uses today to keep the piazza economically sound and fit for the future.
However different their paths – both were driven by the same wish:back to the roots, with the knowledge of today.
